Art, Culture, Technology & Awareness

Retzompantli is a collection of 212 skull sculptures, which were hand crafted out of cleaned up garbage from Tulum's beaches, streets and jungles. The retzompantli team then digitized the sculptures into “AR ready” 3D artworks and minted them as NFTs on the Ethereum Blockchain.

Each NFT has a physical equivalent. The original, physical collection will be managed by the project team and will be exhibited around the world. It is a project that combines art, culture and technology to draw direct attention to one of the biggest problems of our society.

In the artist's own words:
„If we continue like this and do not raise awareness about the pollution in our world, we will end up like the tzompantli. Dead.“

Be curious about the further progress of the project and about the infinite creativity of Arturo Zuñiga Vega.

The NFTs are available for purchase on the foundation.app NFT marketplace for primary purchases. Support this great cause and add a "1 of 1" limited 3D artwork to your digital collection!

Photogrammetry

Each skull is photographed from over 144 different perspectives. The images are then used to create the 3D model using a technique called photogrammetry (a total of more than 30’000 photos). The individual reconstruction is set up to reflect the original materials’ properties and it is optimized for real-time display.

The final product is an “AR ready” 3D model of every skulls, which can be downloaded, used in AR applications and interacted with during 3D display.
